Dark Horse launched their new series HALO: Initiation in August, mostly to delve into the origins of Sarah Palmer, who underwent a drastic transformation from Orbital Drop Shock Trooper to Super Soldier in order to save humanity in the service of Spartan-IV.With this new series Dark Horse offers exciting new comic book entertainment and added background to fans of one of the most famous SciFi ego shooters: Halo – developed by Bungie und 343 Industries. Besides diving straight into the origins of Sarah Palmer, who had carried out the most dangerous missions behind enemy lines even before becoming a super soldier for Spartan-IV, the series also takes a closer look at the program itself. It is the time „before Halo“ that Dark Horse wants to depict here, declaring a „new era of Halo comics“.
To meet the fans' expectations, the publisher has taken on board Halo writer Brian Reed. He is supposed to further develop the game’s comic book universe, collaborating with illustrator Marco Castiello, colorist Michael Atiyeh, letterer Michael Heisler, and John Liberto as cover artist.
Halo has already made a few previous appearances in the comic book world: Next to a number of novels and short stories, Marvel Comics published four series to broaden the fans' horizons: Lee Hammock’s Halo, Brian Michael Bendis' und Maleev’s Halo: Uprising, Peter David’s and Eric Nguyen’s Halo: Helljumper, and Fred van Lentes and Francis Portelas Halo: Blood Line.
